The Twin Who Lived - The Night of Silver and Sun

The Serpent’s Wing had never felt so full.

Mira Silverthorne stood in the center of her room, hands clasped tightly together as she watched the final preparations unfold around her. Moonlight streamed through the tall gothic windows of the tower chamber, bathing the room in pale silver. Outside, the forests surrounding Hogwarts whispered in the cold wind, and the moon—nearly full—hung high above the mountains.

Tonight mattered.

Tonight was not a school project.

Tonight was a promise.

The chamber itself was large and strangely elegant for a first-year student. The Serpent’s Wing had once been part of an older tower rarely used by Hogwarts staff, but since Mira’s arrival it had quietly been refurbished—partly by Dumbledore, partly by Mira herself.

Shelves curved along the walls, filled with ancient tomes, spell diagrams, rune charts, and enchanted instruments. A large circular worktable stood near the center, layered with parchment, tools, gemstones, and carefully arranged magical components.

On that table sat the two objects Mira and Isolde had spent months creating.

The Moonstone Ring.

And the Lunar Haven.

The ring rested atop a velvet cloth. The moonstone embedded in it glowed faintly, its surface swirling with opalescent blue light that seemed almost alive.

Beside it sat the trunk.

At first glance, the Lunar Haven looked like an ordinary wooden chest—though beautifully crafted. The wood was dark oak reinforced with brass bands. Along its curved lid were three silver crescent moons arranged in a cycle: waxing, full, waning.

Runes glowed faintly along the edges.

A small rune at the center pulsed softly.

Isolde stood across from Mira, adjusting one of the rune arrays with delicate precision.

Her silver-blonde hair fell down her back like moonlight itself, catching the glow from the candles scattered around the room.

As a fifth-year Ravenclaw—and a half-veela—Isolde possessed a natural grace that made everything she did appear effortless.

But Mira knew better.

Isolde had barely slept for weeks.

Neither of them had.

Draco Malfoy leaned against a nearby shelf, arms folded, watching them with narrowed curiosity.

“You know,” Draco said slowly, “most first-years spend their evenings trying not to explode their cauldrons.”

He gestured toward the glowing trunk, “You’re building… pocket dimensions.”

Mira didn’t look up, “Technically,” she said, “a self-contained lunar forest ecosystem anchored to a rune-lock dimensional fold.”

Draco blinked, “…Right.”

Isolde smirked.

Draco turned his attention back to Mira, “And tonight you’re testing them?”

“Yes.”

“With who exactly?”

Mira finally looked up, “Remus Lupin.”

Draco’s posture stiffened immediately, “The Remus Lupin?”

“Yes.”

“And your brother?”

“Korrin will be here as well.”

Draco stared at the trunk, “Bloody hell…”

But that wasn’t the part that truly unsettled him.

Draco pointed toward the second velvet tray resting beside the Moonstone Ring.

Two rings lay there.

One held the moonstone.

The other held something very different.

A deep amber gemstone that shimmered like captured sunlight.

“The vampire ring,” Draco said quietly.

Mira nodded, “The Sunstone Ring.”

Draco exhaled slowly, “And the vampire testing it?”

Mira smiled faintly, “My brother Nyx.”

Draco blinked again, “And who’s the other vampire?”

“Lord Cassian Duskryn.”

Draco nearly choked, “…The Warden of the Twilight Court?”

“Yes.”

Draco stared at her, “You invited one of the most powerful vampires in Europe to your bedroom laboratory.”

Mira tilted her head slightly, “He asked very politely.”

Draco rubbed his face, “I’m starting to understand why Professor Snape drinks.”

A soft knock echoed at the door.

Mira took a steady breath, “They’re here.”

Isolde stepped back from the trunk.

The runes stabilized.

Mira moved to the door and opened it.

Standing outside were six people.

Professor Dumbledore.

Professor Snape.

Madam Pomfrey.

Professor Flitwick.

Remus Lupin.

And a tall man with brown hair with silver-white streaks and olive green eyes.

Korrin.

Mira’s adopted brother.

Auror.

Werewolf.

The moment he saw her, Korrin’s stern expression softened.

“Mira.”

She ran forward and hugged him tightly.

He lifted her slightly off the ground before setting her back down.

“You’ve grown,” he said warmly.

“It’s been two months.”

“You grow fast.”

Remus Lupin chuckled softly behind him.

Remus looked tired as always—but there was warmth in his eyes.

He knelt slightly so he could meet Mira at eye level.

“Hello again, Mira.”

“Thank you for coming.”

Remus smiled, “When someone tells me they’ve invented something that might make a werewolf transformation painless… I make time.”

Behind them, Snape crossed his arms, “I remain unconvinced.”

Flitwick floated slightly forward, peering eagerly at the trunk, “Oh my…”

Pomfrey looked nervous, “I am here purely for medical safety.”

Dumbledore’s eyes sparkled, “Tonight promises to be… extraordinary.”

Mira stepped aside, “Please come in.”

The professors entered.

Korrin’s gaze immediately fell on the trunk.

His eyes widened, “You built that?”

Mira nodded.

He crouched beside it, “You’re serious.”

Isolde stepped forward, “It’s called the Lunar Haven.”

Remus looked at the Moonstone Ring, “And that?”

“The Moonstone Ring.”

Snape’s eyes narrowed, “And you believe this jewelry will control lycanthropy.”

Mira met his gaze calmly, “I believe it will stabilize the transformation and prevent the mental collapse.”

Snape raised an eyebrow, “That is an ambitious claim.”

Mira simply gestured toward the table, “Tonight we’ll see.”

Isolde lifted the Moonstone Ring carefully.

The gem glowed softly in her palm.

Flitwick leaned closer, “Incredible craftsmanship…”

Mira explained quietly, “The moonstone resonates with lunar magic. But raw moonstone isn’t stable enough to influence a werewolf transformation.” She pointed to the silver band, “So we built a rune lattice inside the metal.”

Korrin studied it closely, “Runes for emotional stabilization.”

“And pain diffusion,” Isolde added.

Remus looked surprised, “Pain diffusion?”

Mira nodded, “The transformation hurts because the body resists the change.” She looked at him gently, “So we gave the magic a pathway.”

Remus went very still, “You mean…”

“The ring allows the body to transform without tearing itself apart.”

Silence filled the room.

Korrin whispered.

“If that works…”

He couldn’t finish the sentence.

Mira looked at him.

“Do you want to test it?”

Korrin stared at the ring.

He swallowed.

“…Yes.”

Before the transformation could begin, Mira gestured toward the trunk.

“The ring helps control the transformation,” she said.

“But the Lunar Haven gives the werewolf a safe place to exist during it.”

She opened the trunk.

Inside was darkness.

But not ordinary darkness.

It shimmered like deep water.

Flitwick gasped, “A dimensional anchor…”

Mira nodded, “Inside is a forest environment. Roughly two square kilometers.”

Snape stared sharply, “You built a pocket ecosystem.”

“Yes.” Mira confirmed.

Isolde pointed to the lid, “It locks automatically when the transformation begins.”

“And opens at dawn.” Mira added.

Pomfrey examined the rune at the center, “And this?”

“A monitoring rune,” Mira said, “A healer can observe the werewolf’s condition.”

“And the key?” Korrin asked quietly.

Isolde lifted a slender metal key from the table.

The handle formed a crescent moon.

“The Crescent Key.”

She handed it to Pomfrey, “Licensed healers or aurors can open the trunk if the werewolf is in distress.”

Pomfrey nodded slowly, “That’s… very responsible.”

Snape’s voice was softer now, “You considered every contingency.”

Mira simply said, “We had help.”

She glanced at a book resting nearby.

A dark blue diary with silver ravens etched into its cover.

Helena Ravenclaw’s diary.

Dumbledore smiled knowingly.

Korrin removed his jacket.

Remus watched nervously, “You’re sure about this?”

Korrin gave a small smile, “If Mira believes in it… I believe in her.”

Mira slid the Moonstone Ring onto his finger.

Isolde slid the Moonstone Ring onto Remus's finger.

The gems flared briefly.

Silver light flowed through the runes.

Korrin inhaled sharply, “…I can feel it.”

“The moon.” They said.

Outside, the full moon rose higher.

The transformation began.

Korrin and Remus braced themselves.

Their bones shifted.

They didn’t scream.

The transformation continued.

Muscles reshaped.

Claws formed.

Fur spread across their skins.

Yet Korrin and Remus stood calmly.

Breathing steadily.

No agony.

No madness.

Within minutes, a fully transformed two werewolves stood in the room.

But their eyes were clear.

Golden.

Aware.

Snape whispered in disbelief, “…He’s conscious.”

The werewolves looked at Mira.

And nodded.

Tears filled Pomfrey’s eyes.

Korrin and Remus stepped into the trunk.

The forest inside welcomed them.

The lid closed.

Silence followed.

Flitwick whispered, “Merlin’s beard…”

Now came the second test.

The door opened again.

A young man stepped inside.

Tall.

Elegant.

Snow white-haired.

Nyx.

His amethyst emerald eyes softened when he saw Mira.

“Little sister.”

She hugged him tightly.

Behind him entered another figure.

Tall.

Ancient.

Lord Cassian Duskryn.

His presence felt like twilight itself.

Dumbledore inclined his head respectfully, “Lord Duskryn.”

Cassian inclined his head in return, “Headmaster.”

Cassian’s gaze moved to the Sunstone Ring, “So this is the artifact.”

Mira picked it up, “The Sunstone Ring.”

Nyx smiled, “If this works…”

“We can walk in daylight,” Cassian finished quietly.

Draco whispered to himself, “This is insane.”

Nyx slid the Sunstone Ring onto his finger.

The gemstone flared like captured sunlight.

Magic surged through the room.

Nyx flinched.

Then slowly straightened.

“Open the window,” he said.

Snape did.

Sunlight poured into the room.

Everyone held their breath.

Nyx stepped forward.

The light touched his skin.

Nothing happened.

No burning.

No smoke.

Nyx laughed.

Actually laughed.

Cassian stepped forward and took the second ring.

Moments later he stood in the sunlight too.

His expression shattered.

Tears streamed down his face.

“…Eight hundred years,” he whispered.

Flitwick wiped his own eyes.

Korrin and Remus emerged from the trunk moments later, human again.

They looked at Mira.

Then Korrin broke down crying.

Remus hugged him.

Nyx hugged Mira.

Cassian knelt before her.

Flitwick whispered in awe, “These creations… will change everything.”

Snape stared at the rings.

For once, he had no criticism.

Only wonder.

Dumbledore’s eyes shone brighter than ever, “My dear Mira…” He looked at the students. “All of you...may have just rewritten magical history.”

And for the first time since the night began—

Mira allowed herself to smile.

The future had changed.

And they had built it together.
