Chapter 3 – The Girl in the Mirror Hall

“You belong to the palace.”

The pigeon’s voice echoed as I stood beside Navya, both of us frozen in fear.

The palace felt alive.

Not like a building… but like something watching us.

Navya held my hand tightly.

“We have to find our friends,” she whispered.

I nodded, even though my heart was racing.

Around us, the pigeons continued their work in silence, but now it felt different. Like they knew something we didn’t.

Suddenly—

Dong…

A loud bell rang through the palace.

All the pigeons stopped at once.

Not slowly.

Not naturally.

Instantly.

Their heads turned toward the staircase.

Thud…

Footsteps.

Heavy.

Coming from above.

Navya moved closer to me.

“Someone is coming,” she said.

A shadow appeared at the top of the stairs.

Tall.

Still.

Watching.

Then it disappeared.

A small pigeon hurried near us and whispered in a weak human voice:

“Hide… before she sees you…”

“Who is she?” I asked quickly.

But the pigeon flew away in panic.

Before we could react—

SCREEEEEECH!

A sharp, painful sound filled the palace.

The candles went out.

Darkness swallowed everything.

Navya grabbed me.

“I can’t see anything!”

“Stay close!” I said.

Then slowly… dim red lights appeared along the walls.

In front of us, a long hallway revealed itself.

Filled with mirrors.

Tall.

Broken.

Moving slightly like water.

We stepped into the mirror hall carefully.

I looked into one mirror—

Navya was standing there… but she looked weak, older, with dark circles under her eyes.

“Navya… look at this,” I whispered.

She looked into another mirror and gasped.

“You… you have wings…”

I turned.

In that mirror, I had large black wings like a pigeon.

I stepped back in fear.

“This place is changing us,” Navya said.

Then we both noticed the last mirror.

It was different.

Clear.

Still.

Inside it—

I was standing alone.

Navya was gone.

And behind me…

A tall girl stood silently.

Her long hair covered her entire face.

Her hand slowly lifted… and rested on my shoulder.

My body froze.

I turned around quickly.

Nothing.

No one there.

But in the mirror—

The girl slowly raised her head.

Her hair moved slightly.

And underneath…

There were no eyes.

Only darkness.

Navya screamed.

Crack!

The mirror split.

Crack! Crack! Crack!

All the mirrors began breaking at once.

The pigeons outside started screaming loudly.

The palace shook.

And then—

A soft voice whispered right behind us:

“You saw my world…”

We turned slowly.

At the end of the hallway, the same girl was now standing there.

Real.

Still.

Watching us.
