After our conversation on the rooftop, something changed.

He still greeted me every morning.

He still waited for me after class.

He still found excuses to sit beside me whenever he could.

One afternoon, our English teacher announced a writing assignment.

"I want each of you to write a letter."

Several students sighed with relief.

"What are you going to write about?"

"I haven't decided."

He smiled.

"I already know."

The room fell silent as everyone began writing.

Pens moved steadily across paper.

I decided to write a letter to my mother, thanking her for always supporting me.

When I finished, I placed my pen down and looked around.

Most students were still writing.

Narin hadn't moved for several minutes.

He was staring at his paper with a small smile.

As if every word mattered.

When the bell rang, the teacher collected every letter without reading them.

"These will stay private," he said.

As the class began packing their bags, a folded sheet of paper slipped from Narin's notebook onto the floor.

He didn't notice.

I bent down and picked it up.

"Narin."

He turned around.

"You dropped this."

The moment he saw the paper, his expression changed.

He quickly took it from my hand.

"Thanks."

His voice sounded nervous.

I looked away, pretending not to notice.

"I'm glad you saw it before someone else."

"So am I."

He carefully placed it back inside his notebook.

For the rest of the afternoon...

He held onto that notebook more tightly than usual.

As we walked home, I couldn't stop thinking about the letter.

Who had he written it for?

A cousin?

A family member?

Someone from another class?

I almost asked.

But I stopped myself.

Some questions didn't need answers.

Not yet.

That evening, as Narin sat alone in his room, he quietly opened the folded letter once more.

He read the final line again and again.

"I don't know if I'll ever have the courage to tell you. But every day I spend with you becomes my favorite day."

He smiled sadly and folded the paper.

"Not yet."

He carefully placed the letter back inside his notebook.
