A week passed.

Then another.

School settled back into its usual rhythm.

Morning assembly.

Classes.

Lunch.

Homework.

Nothing about my routine changed.

Except...

Narin had somehow become part of it.

Every morning, he greeted me before taking his seat.

Every afternoon, he found a reason to say goodbye before leaving.

They were small moments.

So small that anyone watching us would have thought we were just classmates.

Maybe that's what we were.

One afternoon, dark clouds covered the sky long before the final bell.

The classroom became unusually dim.

"I think it's going to rain," someone said.

"I forgot my umbrella," another student groaned.

As soon as the last bell rang, heavy rain crashed against the windows.

Students crowded near the entrance, hoping it would stop.

It didn't.

I stood quietly near the doorway, watching the rain pour onto the school courtyard.

I wasn't in a hurry.

My house wasn't far.

If the rain became lighter, I'd just walk home.

"You're waiting too?"

I didn't have to turn around.

I recognized the voice.

Narin stood beside me, looking at the rain.

"I didn't bring an umbrella," he admitted.

"Neither did I."

He laughed.

"Looks like we're both unlucky."

For a while, neither of us spoke.

We simply watched the rain.

"It's peaceful," I said.

He looked at me with surprise.

"You actually like the rain?"

"I always have."

He smiled.

"I never would've guessed."

"What about you?"

"I like sunny days."

"Why?"

"So I can play outside."

I nodded.

"That sounds like you."

"And what does that mean?"

"You don't like sitting still."

He laughed.

"You've been observing me."

"I guess I have."

He folded his arms with a satisfied smile.

"So you do notice things."

I looked away.

"Sometimes."

The rain slowly became lighter.

"I think we can go now," I said.

"Race you to the gate?"

I stared at him.

"I don't run."

"I know."

He grinned mischievously.

"That's why I'd win."

Before I could answer, he ran into the rain.

"Narin!"

He turned around while jogging backward.

"You coming or not?"

I couldn't help smiling.

Then, for the first time in a very long time...

I ran.

Not because I wanted to beat him.

But because, somehow...
