The next morning...

I woke up feeling strangely restless.

No matter how hard I tried...

I couldn't forget what Korn had said.

"I wish I was the one standing beside you."

Those words stayed with me.

When I arrived at school, Narin was already waiting outside my classroom.

"There you are."

"You almost made me late."

I smiled.

"I was only two minutes late."

"That's still late."

He laughed and gently flicked my forehead.

"Come on."

"We'll miss the morning assembly."

As we walked across the courtyard, I found myself looking around.

Without realizing it...

I was searching for someone.

Korn.

A few moments later, I saw him standing outside his classroom with a few classmates.

He looked in our direction.

For the first time...

Instead of smiling...

He lowered his head and walked inside.

He didn't even say hello.

"What are you looking at?"

Narin asked.

"Nothing."

I quickly looked away.

"Let's go."

Throughout the day...

I kept thinking about Korn.

Had I been too harsh?

Should I have comforted him?

Or was rejecting him the kindest thing I could have done?

I didn't know.

After school, Narin and I walked toward the school gate.

Just as we were about to leave...

Someone called my name.

"P'Phawin."

I turned around.

It was Korn.

He looked calmer than the night before.

"I'm sorry for yesterday."

"You don't have to apologize."

"I do."

"I made things difficult for you."

I shook my head.

"It's okay."

He gave me a small smile.

"From today onward..."

"I'll be your junior again."

"I won't trouble you anymore."

Before I could answer...

He bowed politely.

Then walked away.

I watched him disappear into the crowd.

For some reason...

His smile looked lonelier than ever.

And although I didn't realize it then...

That wasn't the end of our story.
