that boy in the tree tunnel

white tee, orange shorts, 

sneakers crunching the gravel

the grasshopper road, and zing, 

the springy bugs zing 

in spontaneous arcs all at once, 

raining down

and their royal form captivated

Boy netted one with 

his cotton shirt, his basket 

he ran back home 

but it had been smushed

and gingerly this time

yellow-green guts inside out

figured they're untouchable

my brown eyes traumatized

by their destroyed form
